Characterization of Private Sector Properties in Downtown Ottawa
Ottawa Centre EcoDistrict and Invest Ottawa recognized that Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) Energy Services Acquisition Program (ESAP) was examining the business case for the modernization of the National Capital Area district heating and cooling.
This report identifies the private sector space within Ottawa’s downtown core that could be connected to the district energy system, especially once it has been modernized, in an effort to help establish the benefits of connecting to non-government buildings.
The buildings that were included within the study fell within these streets: Wellington, Bay, Gloucester and Elgin.
The purpose of the study was to:
- better understand the characteristics of the existing stock of buildings not owned or occupied by the federal government of Canada; and
- to collect data that would help to determine the feasibility of offering district heating and cooling to private sector buildings currently not connected to the system.
The results of the data can be seen in the full report attached below.
