We are excited to announce that the EcoDistrict and the EnviroCentre will be collaborating to bring the EcoDistrict’s key sustainability programs city-wide
On February 16th, we hosted a gathering of both the EcoDistrict and EnviroCentre communities to announce our future collaboration. We had an incredible turn out of EcoDistrict network members, partners and supporters, as we look to build on the excellent business sustainability progress already underway.
During the last four years, the EcoDistrict has developed innovative and proven approaches to making the downtown core more sustainable. However, these programs can and should be implemented across Ottawa. EnviroCentre, with a mission to be the go-to source of practical services and programs that help people, organizations and communities across Ottawa conserve energy, improve environmental health and act more sustainably, has worked alongside the EcoDistrict from the beginning.
The EcoDistrict as a geographic location is well-established in downtown Ottawa and continues to exist. EnviroCentre will take the best sustainability programs developed by the EcoDistrict city-wide. This will mean expanding the network and focusing on program delivery in 2017 while still reaching out to all of the EcoDistrict partners.
In 2017, Electric Vehicle (EV) Day will be hosted in other parts of Ottawa in addition to Sparks Street, the Cycle In program will be available to other neighbourhoods and the Environment Week program will be revised to attract a broader audience. At the same time, there will continue to be a focus on making the downtown core greener and on taking actions that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For example, EnviroCentre will offer EcoDistrict network members an opportunity to continue their sustainability leadership through Carbon 613, the made-in-Ottawa, target-based sustainability program for businesses.
We have learned so much these last few years about how to implement sustainability on the ground. We know what works, what doesn’t and how we can move forward in alignment with the strategic objectives of the City of Ottawa. What we need now is an experienced partner and EnviroCentre is the perfect choice.
