So what will the EcoDistrict look like?
The Ottawa Centre EcoDistrict offers a once in a generation opportunity to transform our city’s core.
This innovative initiative comes at a time when Ottawa’s downtown real estate scene is changing. The federal public service and government demands for office space are changing. As a result older, less energy efficient buildings are becoming vacant. At the same time, the Confederation LRT line will soon be a reality in Ottawa, which will bring a wave of residents looking to settle in the downtown.
This is the perfect time to transform old, tired buildings into energy efficient, cost effective, green buildings – buildings residents will want to live in and where progressive businesses and organizations will want to set up shop.
It is also time to take stock of what we have and what we need for complete living. Grocery stores, hardware stores or other amenities? What do we need to liven up the streets and attract people after work and on the weekend? What can we do to improve overall visitor experience?
The creation of the Ottawa Centre EcoDistrict is the first step in thinking more holistically about shrinking our environmental footprint, increasing social vibrancy and attracting business & other organizations looking to relocate or expand.
