Collaboration is the key to getting things done and we work with a wide variety of community partners.
Our vision statement is “Advancing the economy, greening the core, inspiring a healthier, smarter, sustainable future. “ We know that to achieve this vision and build Canada’s first EcoDistrict, it will take leadership from businesses and organizations.
The EcoDistrict Network launched in January 2015 as the “Champions Network” with 29 businesses and organizations helping to transform the downtown core.
EcoDistrict Champions are primarily businesses and organizations located inside the EcoDistrict that are committed to implementing sustainable practices while showcasing efforts already underway.
EcoDistrict Ambassadors come from across the region and work together in EcoDistrict-led think tanks to consider ways of adopting smart, innovative approaches and technologies that will benefit commercial and residential buildings. These organizations also work with the OCED to provide sustainability options to others in the network.
Why become an EcoDistrict Champion or Ambassador?
- Recognition – Our progress reporting system recognizes achievement, includes certificates, door stickers and website logos, and promotes your successes through events and media releases;
- Sharing – We can host lunch and learns at your workplace, use surveys to learn what employees want in a better downtown and invite your team to participate in EcoDistricts events; and
- Improvement – We provide a one-stop shop connection to programs for environmental improvement and we will work with the City, the National Capital Commission and landlords to improve downtown places and spaces.
Joining the EcoDistrict Network is an easy way to support the transformation of Ottawa’s downtown into Canada’s first EcoDistrict. It allows you to be recognized for what you are doing and to participate through idea generation, information sharing and ongoing improvement.
