Improving cycling connections to and from the downtown core
Our goal is to support a modal shift for cycling from 4% to 8%. On September 14, 2015 over 60 volunteers followed 20 routes to downtown from 12 wards, all arriving at City Hall at 9:00 AM that morning. The following Councillors participated in the ride: Tobi Nussbaum, Mathieu Fleury, Jean Cloutier, Tim Tierney, Jeff Leiper and Catherine McKenney.
Each team was greeted by Mayor Jim Watson and over coffee they complied their notes on the good and the bad aspects of their ride. This information was compiled and recommendations made in our first ever Cycle In report.
Overall Cycle In is a campaign promoting cycling anywhere in the city for any reason. Whether it’s a commute to work or a weekend festival – the downtown is becoming more welcoming for cyclists with increased parking and better routes. We thank all who participated in the Cycle In ride, many of whom are included in our photo gallery below.
